From Riskalyze to Nitrogen: Meet the Six Products Built for Financial Advisors
If you knew us as Riskalyze, you probably knew us for one thing: the Risk Number®.
It’s still here. But there’s a lot more to Nitrogen today.
Riskalyze became Nitrogen in 2023. Since then, we’ve expanded beyond investment risk to help financial advisors with investment research, retirement income, tax intelligence, legacy planning, and insurance alignment.
Today, Nitrogen is a connected suite of six AI-powered advisor products, all designed to help you showcase the value of your advice in every client moment.
So, what happened to the Riskalyze tools you already know? And what can you do with Nitrogen today?
Let’s catch you up.
Why did Riskalyze become Nitrogen?
Riskalyze was founded in 2011 around a simple idea: give advisors and their clients a better way to understand investment risk.
The Risk Number helped turn an abstract concept like risk tolerance into something clients could understand. Advisors could measure a client’s comfort with risk and compare it with the risk in their portfolio, giving both sides a common language for the conversation.
Over the next decade, Riskalyze expanded its capabilities, helping advisors analyze portfolios, build proposals, and communicate their advice more effectively.
By 2023, the Riskalyze name no longer reflected everything we were building. We became Nitrogen to represent a broader vision for how technology could help financial advisors serve their clients.
The Risk Number remained a cornerstone of our products. And our vision of a world empowered to invest fearlessly continued to guide us.
What is Nitrogen today?
Nitrogen is a connected suite of AI-powered products that helps financial advisors turn complex financial information into clear, persuasive visuals their clients can understand.
Think about the conversations you have with clients every day.
Is their portfolio aligned with their risk tolerance? Will their retirement income last? Could they be overlooking tax opportunities? What happens to their wealth when they’re gone? Do they have enough insurance coverage?
These are important questions, and answering them is only part of an advisor’s job. You also need to help clients understand what the answers mean for their financial future.
That’s where Nitrogen comes in.
Our six products connect risk alignment, investment research, income planning, tax intelligence, legacy planning, and insurance alignment, giving advisors more ways to demonstrate the value of their advice.
When something you show a client helps them move from confusion or fear to understanding and confidence, we call that a Catalyst Moment.
Meet Nucleus, the AI engine behind Nitrogen
Preparing for meaningful client conversations takes work. There’s information to gather, portfolios to analyze, reports to build, and client details to organize.
Nucleus™ is Nitrogen’s agentic AI engine, designed to help advisors complete that work faster.
You can ask Nucleus to turn an investment statement into a portfolio, research securities, build a proposal from an existing portfolio, generate a Retirement Map, or prepare client reports.
It can also help process tax returns, surface client information, and complete workflows across Nitrogen’s products.
Nucleus works with the tools and client information available to you, and asks for your approval before taking actions that require it. The underlying financial calculations rely on Nitrogen’s established analytics and methodologies, while the advisor remains responsible for the advice.
With Nucleus handling more of the preparation, you can spend more time reviewing the results and helping clients understand their options.
Six products built for better client conversations
Nitrogen offers six connected advisor products, each designed to help you address a different part of your client’s financial life.
Here’s what you can do with each one.
Risk Center: Align portfolios with your clients’ risk tolerance
Risk Center is where advisors familiar with Riskalyze will find many of the tools they already know.
The Risk Number measures a client’s comfort with investment risk on a scale from 1 to 99. You can compare that number with the risk in their existing portfolio and use the 95% Historical Range™ to illustrate potential gains and losses.
From there, you can build proposals aligned with a client’s risk tolerance, compare current and proposed portfolios, and document how your recommendations reflect their best interests.
Instead of relying on labels like “conservative” or “aggressive,” you can show clients what investment risk means in real dollars.
That clarity helps prospects understand your recommendations and gives existing clients a reference point when markets become volatile.
Research Center: Turn investment analysis into a compelling client conversation
When a prospect brings you an existing portfolio, you need to understand what’s in it before you can show them what you’d do differently.
Research Center gives advisors the investment research and analytics to do that work.
With Discovery, you can search and screen investments using specific criteria or natural-language questions. Portfolio analytics, modeled performance, and Stats Multiview help you compare investments, evaluate portfolio characteristics, and illustrate how different strategies have performed.
Research Center also includes tools such as Riskalyze GPA® to help advisors evaluate investment quality and identify opportunities for further analysis.
Whether you’re reviewing a prospect’s holdings or explaining a proposed portfolio change, you can bring detailed investment research into a clear, visual conversation.
That gives clients a better understanding of the analysis behind your advice.
Income Center: Help clients see their retirement income plan
One of the biggest questions clients have is whether they’ll have enough money to last through retirement.
Income Center helps advisors turn that question into a visual conversation about a client’s financial future.
Retirement Maps illustrate projected retirement outcomes using a client’s assets, income sources, savings, and spending assumptions. Income by Source shows where retirement income is expected to come from, while account balance projections help clients understand how different accounts may change over time.
You can also use Stress Tests to illustrate how a retirement plan might respond if historical market events, such as the 2008 financial crisis, happened again.
These tools help clients see how their income sources work together, understand the assumptions behind their plan, and explore the potential effects of different financial decisions.
Instead of asking clients to interpret a spreadsheet, you can show them a clearer picture of their retirement.
Tax Center: Find opportunities hiding in a client’s financial picture
A client’s tax return contains valuable information about their financial life. Tax Center helps advisors turn that information into insights they can use in client conversations.
Upload a client’s Form 1040, and Tax Center creates a visual Tax Snapshot showing income, deductions, tax brackets, and other relevant details.
From there, Tax Scenarios let you explore how changes in a client’s circumstances could affect their tax picture, including changes in income, filing status, or state of residence.
The Roth Conversion Calculator helps illustrate the potential tax impact of different conversion scenarios. Tax Location helps advisors examine where investments are held across taxable, tax-deferred, and tax-exempt accounts, identifying opportunities to improve tax efficiency.
Tax Center also provides Tax Transition analysis to help advisors evaluate the tax considerations involved in moving from an existing portfolio to a proposed investment strategy.
Together, these capabilities help you uncover insights, illustrate potential outcomes, and collaborate more effectively with clients and their tax professionals.
Legacy Center: Build relationships with the next generation before wealth transfers
An advisor may work with a client for decades without ever meeting the people who will eventually inherit their wealth.
Legacy Center helps change that.
Legacy Map brings together information already in Nitrogen, including accounts, trusts, life insurance policies, and beneficiaries, to create a visual picture of a client’s projected estate.
Clients can see what they’ve built, where their wealth is expected to go, and how their beneficiaries fit into the picture.
With the client’s approval, Legacy Key lets you send beneficiaries a personalized, advisor-branded introduction that includes your contact information and clear next steps if something happens to their loved one.
You can also include the Legacy Map in client reports, giving families a document they can reference beyond the meeting.
For advisors, that creates a natural opportunity to build relationships with the next generation while their clients are still there to make the introduction.
Insurance Center: Make insurance coverage easier to understand
Insurance is an important part of a client’s financial picture, but determining whether they have enough coverage can be complicated.
Insurance Center gives advisors a structured way to evaluate coverage and explain potential gaps.
Clients complete an Insurance Coverage Assessment, which helps calculate their Coverage Number™. The Coverage Number compares existing coverage with calculated needs, giving advisors and clients a clear starting point for the conversation.
Insurance Center brings together coverage analysis for life insurance, long-term care, and retirement income, helping advisors identify where clients may have gaps or potential excess coverage.
The results are grounded in established methodologies and client information, giving you a clear basis for discussing coverage needs.
When you identify a potential gap, you can move into a proposal and show how different coverage options could change the client’s financial picture.
That helps make insurance part of the broader financial conversation rather than a separate discussion that happens only when a policy needs attention.
One connected suite, powered by Nucleus
Each Nitrogen product addresses a different part of a client’s financial life. Together, they help advisors connect those conversations.
A client’s investment portfolio can inform their retirement income projections. Their accounts and insurance policies can contribute to their Legacy Map. Their tax information can help illustrate the impact of a proposed investment change.
Because Nitrogen’s products work with connected client information, advisors can build on the work they’ve already done instead of starting from scratch for every conversation.
And with Nucleus helping complete workflows across the suite, advisors can spend less time preparing information and more time putting it to work for clients.
Nitrogen’s products are available individually or through bundles. Nitrogen Elite includes Risk Center, Research Center, and Income Center. Nitrogen Complete brings together all six products, along with Firm Controls.
